The man was arrested on the evening of November 20, 2021 and was transported to the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment. He sustained what has been described as “serious harm” according to an IIO press release and was transferred to the hospital and subsequently released from police custody.

A complaint was later filed against the RCMP and the IIO was later notified and began their investigation process. That investigation remains ongoing.
