A&W’s newest menu item is not for you, it’s for your dog

Next time you head through an A&W drive-thru with your dog in the car, make sure you order them the newest menu item from the fast-food chain.

A&W Canada has added a Pup Patty to its Burger Family, a $2 menu item that is meant to be enjoyed by your four-legged furry friend.

“A&W is cooking up these Pup Patties without the iconic A&W seasoning so that every dog can safely savour the taste of their premium grass-fed beef,” a release explains.

“It’s always recommended to consult your veterinarian before feeding any human food to your pets.”

The Pup Patty is only available to be ordered in A&W drive-thrus, since pets are not allowed inside the dining area.

For the next two weeks, a portion of the proceeds from every Pup Patty sold will be donated to non-profit organizations in Canada that are dedicated to raising and training service dogs.

That includes the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS), a cause that’s close to the heart of A&W’s director of marketing, Amanda Wang, who has volunteered with PADS for two years.

“When I’m out with a service-dog-in-training, it’s not just a learning opportunity for the puppy but it’s often a chance to enrich the public’s understanding of working dogs as well,” noted Wang.

“I’m very grateful for the support from the whole A&W organization in running this campaign to help further the awareness of non-profits like PADS.”

A&W says the Pup Patty was inspired by a secret menu hack, but we’d wager a bet that the viral success of Starbucks’ Pup Cup over the years had to have played a part as well.
