Officers pull person in ‘emotional distress’ from railing on Overlander Bridge

Police intervention prevented a potentially tragic outcome on the Overlander Bridge last weekend.

According to Kamloops RCMP, officers were called to the bridge around 9:30 pm for reports of a person in “emotional distress.”

“As the person attempted to climb the bridge’s railing, officers pulled them back over and safely onto the ground,” explained Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

They were apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to Royal Inland Hospital for assessment and care.

This was one of three incidents Evelyn highlighted in her weekend report.

Early Friday afternoon, a man was arrested in connection to a motorcycle that was stolen from Kelly Douglas Road “sometime after May 9.”

Officers located the bike on Westoby Road and arrested a suspect nearby. The Kamloops man faces several charges and will remain in custody until his next court date.

On Sunday morning, police were called to a commercial location in the 100 block of Oak Road after security cameras spotted a person trying to break into the building.

The suspect was located nearby and officers discovered that the 25-year-old Kamloops man was already wanted on a warrant for failure to comply with an undertaking.

He too will remain in custody following his bail hearing as he awaits a court date next week.
