The Victoria Grizzlies have officially been eliminated from BCHL playoff contention following a four game sweep at the hands of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, who sealed the series with a 6-4 win on Wednesday night.

The Grizz were hoping to turn around a 2-0 deficit as they returned home for games three and four this week, however they were ultimately unable to hold down the potent Bulldogs offence, who combined for 12 total goals over the final two contests to seal the four game sweep.

Game three on Tuesday saw Victoria grab an early 2-0 lead on goals by forward Oliver Picard and defenceman Eli Barnett. However, Alberni goaltender Hobie Hedquist would take over the game midway through the second, stopping every one of the Grizzlies remaining chances and finishing the game with 45 saves on 47 shots.

The Bulldogs offence would come alive in the third, scoring five times in the frame to seal the 6-2 victory.

Forward Ethan Bono would finish as the top-scorer with two goals and one assist, while Grizzlies starting goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 26 saves on 31 shots.

Alberni would carry the momentum into game four on Friday, taking a 3-0 lead to start the game. However, the Grizzlies would fight back to cut the deficit to 3-2 with goals by Anthony Carone and Owen Bohn in the second, but a goal late in the middle frame by Bulldogs defenceman Emanuelson Charbonneau would put his team by two headed into the final period.

Victoria would pull back within one on a goal by Luc Pelletier early in the third, however a pair by Alberni forwards Will Elger and Dakota MacIntosh would seal the Grizzlies fate and the game would end with a 6-4 Bulldogs victory.

Grizzlies goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton would finish with 29 saves on 34 shots, while counterpart Hobie Hedquist stopped 29 of 33 shots faced.

Victoria will now begin the long offseason in preparation for the 2023-2024 campaign, which begins next fall.
