Around 2:30 pm on Aug. 10, the Sidney North Saanich Detachment responded to a local thrift store after an employee called about a historical explosive device having been dropped off.

As a safety precaution, police evacuated the building and contained the area while waiting for the assistance of personnel from the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.

Navy explosive experts arrived around 5:30 pm and determined the device to be fake, allowing for everything to return to normal.
