At approximately 8:40 am, Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to reports of a fire in the 4000 block of 34th Street.

Upon arrival, crews found one unit of the residential complex fully engulfed in flames and smoke extending to the roof and neighbouring suites.

During the fire, one individual was rescued from the balcony of the unit where the blaze was concentrated.

“Their (VFRS crews) quick action, ensured everyone was able to make it to safety during this incident,” said Deputy Chief Alan Hofsink.

The fire was quickly contained, but six units and a recreational trailer in the parking lot experienced fire, smoke and water damage.

“The building has been evacuated, pending a damage assessment,” reads a press release.

“The City of Vernon Emergency Support Services (ESS) program is providing assistance to temporarily displaced residents.”
