Residents of the Westside Road community of Parkers Cove are dealing with a massive flood.
Falcon Avenue has been transformed from a roadway to a river after Whiteman's Creek spilled its banks overnight.
The flooding hit Sandy Harrison's summer home sometime after 1:00 am.
That's when Whiteman's Creek which normally runs behind the backyard, was now flowing at her doorstep.
"Sick. Like totally sick," said Harrison, describing her feelings as she looked across the rushing water at her home.
"And it doesn't seem like it's going to stop anytime soon, they say it's supposed to crest by nine."
Harrison said she thought it was raining until her husband looked outside.
"He said 'no' that's a river flowing down the road. So we just decided it was that bad, so we just decided to get up and leave."
Nearby steps away, people unaffected by the rising waters, did their best to help and comfort those not so lucky.
"It's devastating for these people," said Linda Legare.
"This gentleman has been here for like 20 years, and these people just moved in last year," she said gesturing across her yard.
"It's very sad, very sad."
Kathy Ladyka watched as the tenants of her home continued to place sandbags around her house to limit the damage.
"They've been out here since two in the morning," she said.
"My house is doing pretty good actually,"
Lloyd Shouldice had been helping residents limit the damage all day when he spoke with KelownaNow this afternoon.
"Steady, yeah," he said. "Sandbagging as fast as we can get the bags we're placing them and the water just keeps coming up."
Harrison can only watch helplessly and hope that the damage is limited.
"I'm sure our crawlspace is totally filled," said Harrison. "I'm hoping it's not going to get into the house."
The flood is happening on Okanagan Indian Band land and officials with the band are describing it as a 'One-in-200-year-event'.
"Crews are continuing to mitigate damage to infrastructure and homes in the affected areas,” said the Band in a social media post.
