Justin Collins is ‘simply unwilling to stop committing crimes’: Kelowna RCMP

Justin Wayne Collins continues to pad his resume as one of the Central Okanagan’s biggest prolific offenders.

The 46-year-old, who prompted a public warning from police last summer about his extensive criminal history, was arrested again on Wednesday.

Police responded to a break and enter at a retail business on Cannery Lane downtown and it didn’t take long for officers to recognize the suspect as Collins.

“Prior to police arrival, employees had already recognized the suspect via the live CCTV feed and located him nearby with some of the stolen items of which they recovered,” explained an RCMP release.

“Employees then alerted police to the suspect’s location where he was arrested and an additional stolen item from the store was recovered from his person.”

According to the RCMP, this latest break and enter came a few hours after he was released from court in connection to charges against him stemming from incidents on Monday and Tuesday.

“Justin Collins is a prime example of a repeat offender who has shown he is simply unwilling to stop committing crime and victimizing our businesses and downtown core,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

“A collaboration between attuned business owners, the police and the BC Prosecution Service has resulted in this individual remaining in custody over the weekend whilst seeking further detention.”

Collins is due to appear in court again on Monday.
