Kelowna high school putting on musical stage production of Frozen

Students at Kelowna Christian High School (KCS) are busy rehearsing ahead of their upcoming five-show run of Disney’s Frozen Jr.

From Dec. 14-16, they will put on the 60-minute musical stage production, designed for younger performers and based on the 2013 film and 2018 Broadway adaptation.

The cast and crew includes dozens of students from the high school and is being led by Sydney Cunningham, Alastair Heinrichs and Will Friesen.

Cunningham says this particular production is a very exciting one for the students.

“It has been 10 years since Frozen hit the big screen and many students involved in the production grew up with Frozen,” she explained. “Our cast and crew of over 45 students have been hard at work amidst the busy school year to build this production into a beautiful rendition.”

Karleigh Martin and Brigitte Reimer are playing the leads, Anna and Elsa, and Cunningham says they display fantastic chemistry in their roles while bringing their personal flair to the stage.

“Everyone has a memory of watching Frozen for the first time, and we invite families to bring their young children to experience the love and joy of the beloved characters and songs,” added Cunningham.

“Matinees are aimed at young families to attend; the show is one hour long, and singing along to the catchy songs is encouraged! And yes, Anna and Elsa will be available for photos after the show.”

Those 2 pm matinee performances will happen on Friday, Dec. 15, and Saturday, Dec. 16, with 7 pm shows each night between Dec. 14-16.

It’s a great chance to support Kelowna’s young stage performers and sing along to tunes like “Love Is an Open Door,” “Let It Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”
