Kelowna's Payton and Dillon Budd Memorial Ride returns in June

The Payton and Dillon Budd Memorial Ride in Kelowna is back on June 11 with a goal of raising $150,000.

Funds raised at the 10th annual event will go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) for mental health programs and supports for people of all ages in Kelowna.

“In the past decade, we have seen the stigma around mental health, mental illness and suicide begin to decrease, which is a good thing,” says Mike Gawliuk, the CEO for CMHA Kelowna.

“What it also means is that there are more people recognizing that they, or a loved one, needs help and so each year we see an increase in the number of people asking for services and supports.”

Thousands of riders have taken part in the ‘ride don’t hide’ event, shining a light on the reality that mental health impacts everyone.

In addition to the usual 6 km walking route and the 25 km and 7.5 km biking routes, this year’s event will include a new 100 km route, and the 50 km route has been updated.

There will also be a post-ride event, which will feature performances by Scotty Berg, Conroy Lee Ross and Jeff Piattelli, as well as family-friendly games and activities.

BNA restaurant will be offering burgers, along with other food vendors taking part.

“At its core, this ride is about community,” Gawliuk explains.

“The Payton and Dillon Budd Memorial Ride is a chance to come together and show each other what a mentally healthy community can look like.”

Riders and striders of all ages and abilities can register for the event as an individual or part of a team here.

It will take place at Sutherland Bay Park.

Thomas Alan Budd Foundation is the presenting sponsor.
