UPDATE: Missing Kelowna man contacts family after seeing news reports

(UPDATE: Dec. 6 @ noon) - A 49-year-old Kelowna man is no longer considered missing.

It was a quick and positive conclusion to the search for Kelly Murphy, as the RCMP says he contacted his family after seeing his name in the news on Tuesday.

“The media attention generated yesterday was instrumental in receiving information regarding his whereabouts and well-being," said Cpl. Michael Gauthier. "Thank you to the media agencies and public for your assistance.”


(Original story: Dec. 5 @ 1 pm) - The Kelowna RCMP says there is great concern for the well-being of a missing Kelowna man, a little over a week after he went missing.

A friend and roommate of 49-year-old Kelly Murphy reported him missing on Sunday, Nov. 26, after he had not heard from or seen him in two days.

He told police that Murphy made “some concerning comments” before leaving their residence on foot.

According to police, the missing man was last seen wearing a red hoodie, white hat and black and white runners.

The following description of Murphy was provided:

  • Caucasian male
  • 49 years old
  • 5’10”
  • 180 lbs
  • Brown hair
  • Green eyes

“The Kelowna RCMP has been patrolling and making numerous inquiries trying to locate Kelly Murphy for several days now and have been unsuccessful,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier.

“We are asking for the public’s help locating him or any information as to his whereabouts so we can confirm his well-being.”

Anyone who sees Murphy, or has information with regards to his whereabouts, is urged to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2023-70080.
